About

Perspective you can push around

knowperspective.art is a free study tool for artists learning to build linear perspective by hand. Place a station point, a cone of vision and vanishing points on the sheet, then plot a box from them.

Who it is for

Illustrators, concept and comic artists, sketchers, and anyone working through a perspective book who has copied the diagram but can't explain the lines. You only need to know what a horizon and a vanishing point are.

Why it exists

Most explanations show the finished diagram. The lab draws every line from one box and one eye point, so you can see what each part does when you move it. Push the station point down and the vanishing points spread. Turn the box and one vanishing point comes in while the other runs off the sheet. Tilt your gaze and a third one appears.

How to use it

  1. Start from a preset, then drag the sliders.
  2. Hover the element list on the left to light up one line at a time.
  3. Switch the cone of vision to Camera for real lenses and sensors, or press Fit D to find D from the cone the way you would on paper.
